As a kid, I felt immense guilt and pressure to hide who I was. Often trying to bury the truth by any means necessary. I was terrified. I didn’t want to admit I was gay to myself, let alone have anyone else find out.

My father took me on a hunting trip when I was 9, where I killed a small deer that stood terrified in front of us. I felt I had no other choice, that leaning into his way of life would actually help me. Instead, it became one of the worst, most vivid memories of my life.

December is an ode to my childhood. To growing up in the south. To young love, making tough decisions, and desperately trying to find your place in it all.
