THE PARPIE

All the Parpie wants is to be like all the other birds; but no other bird has a magpie for a mother and a parakeet for a father. Taking us on bird’s eye journey across the four corners of London, The Parpie opens our eyes to the wild new world of an inner-city bird kingdom.

Rose-ringed parakeets nestle in the window boxes of Trellick Tower feeding off chilli plants, while megalomaniac magpies trade in diamanté ear studs, and greedy seagulls swarm landfills on the outskirts of town, basking in the rubble of food-waste.

The story takes us on a journey across London through the eyes of a young bird – through its monuments, landscapes and the bird characters we encounter, and make the city what it is. This is the beginning of the parpie’s journey of self-discovery in her hometown, and the quest for a place of her own to roost, away from the family nest.
